Pass the Mic: Interview with Mel Kennedy on Trans-Centred Midwifery Care
In this volume of Pass the Mic, we seek to educate midwives on how midwifery care can centre the needs of trans and nonbinary people. Throughout Trans Awareness Week (13-19 November), stay tuned for video interviews uplifting the knowledge and power of trans and nonbinary midwives, advocates, and parents.
Mel Kennedy (they/them) is a Black, queer, non-binary, and neurodivergent full-spectrum Doula, Certified Lactation Consultant, Childbirth Educator, midwifery student with the National Midwifery Institute, and reproductive justice advocate in the U.S. Mel’s role in birthwork is deeply connected to intersectional justice and liberation. For Trans Awareness Week, we talked to them about queer- and trans-inclusive midwifery care and education.
